This new Arcade Fire track is leaving me confused. It's going to be featured on the above film 'The Hunter Game' (hopefully it won't be a single.. But who knows?). It opens nicely with some The Residents-esque soundscapes, but the following few minutes of Régine sounds like a symphonic metal version of The Clash. It's hard to digest at first, it has some nice bass work and a lovely little synth in the background, but it just doesn't have any serious Arcade Fire 'sounds'.
The vocals are heavily layered and Régine does take lead on this track. The drumming is slightly repetitive but it will be interesting to see where this track slots in among the others on this films compilation album. The synthetic/industrial section towards the end is the best section musically. We hear a general buildup of volume and instruments... But nothing comes of it. Disappointing to say the least. I'd like to mention the memorable progression of the strings and synthesizer. I can hear this progression being repeated throughout the film and this Arcade Fire track being the icing on the cake.
